The Human Body
We learned about our anatomy, the five senses, disabilities, and exercise. We talked about our skin, brain, bones, muscles and other organs and why they are important. We traced our bodies, measured our height and weight and colored in our various organs.
We also discussed a few physical disabilities like missing an arm or being blind. I had the kids walk around the room with full sight, then put a blind fold on and they tried it again. I also had the kids carry a tray full of balls across the room and back, using both arms, then put one arm in a sling and had them try it again. They all realized it was much harder to complete the task without the use of eyesight or both arms.
We learned about the five senses too. We smelled various spices; tasted salt, sugar and mint; touched items that were spikey, squishy and hard; we listened to head phones; we looked at pictures and lights.
We read The Busy Body Book by Lizzy Rockwell and then completed an obstacle course in the basement. We then talked about which parts of our body we used during this excericse.
